USER'S COMMENTS & SUGGESTIONSUSER STORYUSABILITY ISSUES (High Priority)
Admin Module – Schedule (Appointment Status Setting)GEN1Users 1 to 7“I think things could be labelled a little bit better... Even the status, it could be labeled ‘arrive’ instead of ‘here’, just something more clear… And the inbox needs to be relabelled Labs or something.” – Administrative Staff

"Physicians already have a lot of common language and common workflows we should be drawing from this as opposed to local idiosyncrasies." – Physician
I want to see the common physician language on the screen. Some suggestions includes

1. Arrived instead of Here
2. Lab Reports instead of Inbox Lab
The terminology and language used confuse users
Users do not understand what a ‘Tickler’ is
Users are confused by inconsistent section header behaviour

GEN2User 4 & User 1“It’s not easy when it’s your first time. But if you had some training for a few days you could go back and do everything.” – Administrative Staff

“It would take a lot of getting used to. Ideally the EMR would resemble something like Facebook where it’s quite intuitive.” – Physician
I need a hands-on User Training prior to using OSCAR, then i can gradually get use to it.Users find it difficult to learn to use Oscar
GEN3User 6“Oh, you can’t undo it!” – Administrative StaffI need an UNDO button or be able to right click on my mouse and select UNDO to will revert a recent update.Users cannot undo their actions
Oscar MessengerFUNCT1User 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 & 7“I don’t like it [pop-up windows], to be honest. It could be useful, but it can be bothersome – I accidentally closed the system earlier and I didn’t realize it. In a way that is a little bit dangerous.”
– Physician

“Everything is not on one screen, I can’t switch back and forth easily... I don’t know how many screens I have open, there is no tab telling me, so that is not helpful.... It’s not efficient. Having to keep going back and forth is difficult.”
– Administrative Staff

“I am not sure windows is the best way to do it, but one needs to be able to view several different areas... Nothing worse than closing a window you did not want to close.”
– Physician
I want to be able to see everything on one screen and when i choose to open another window i need to see it as a tab within the bigger screen so I can control them all without going back and forth nor closing them accidentallyPop-up windows are disorienting and predispose to use errors
Oscar MessengerFUNCT2User 1 & 3Windows behave inconsistently in Oscar.”
– Physician
“The only thing would be to be able to make sure it saves when you close. If there’s a way that I can click and view something I’ve just closed to make sure it’s been done.”
– Physician
I want the system to ask me to confirm if i want to save changes when i close a window then am sure that updates made are savedWindow behaviour is inconsistent and lacks error prevention
Oscar MessengerFUNCT3User 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 & 7“I have no idea what Tickler is.”
– Physician
“The word Tickler wasn’t a clue at all... it was one of the options so I clicked on it. I knew it has to be one of the options.”
–Administrative Staff
“I would just say if Dr. Gallagher has not acknowledged it I would expect a button right here that I can right click or click that allows me to send reminder...It should be convenient”
– Physician
“The term is unusual in terms of medical administrative language... Tickler would not be the top of my world... Tickler, I wanted to see [it] just because it is so unusual... maybe a 'Reminder' or 'Reminder alert' would be easier.”
– Administrative Staff
I want to see the usual medical administrative terms on the screen. Some suggestions includes
1. Reminder instead of Tickler
2. E-Chart INSTEAD OF Encounter
3. Patient Demographics INSTEAD OF Master File
4. Patient instead of Search [in the main navigation bar]
Users do not understand what a ‘Tickler’ is
Search Screen – EncounterENCOUNT1User 6“If there was more than one Franklin, and I was moving too quickly, I might have added it to the wrong patient.”
– Administrative Staff
“There’s no demographics for me to say ‘Yes, this is the right patient.’ If it says the patient’s name and date of birth, then I could tell if it was the wrong patient”
– Administrative Staff
I want to be able to easily identify the right patient from a Patient's demography (i.e. Name, DoB etc.)Patient header does not support verification of correct patient record
Search Screen – EncounterENCOUNT2User 1, 3, 5 & 6“There’s a difference between clicking e-Forms which shows what’s been sent and then clicking the ‘+’ sign which allows you to add a new one. This is not entirely intuitive in my point of view. If I try and click the + for forms I get a popup list, but I actually have to click on the + for eForms, Documents. I’d probably get quite irritated by this.”
– Physician
“I thought you can click on any part of the heading, but I guess you need to click specifically on the name”
– Administrative Staff
For my Patients e-forms and documents, when i follow the e-Doc on the main menu then i should be able to click on any of the heading or get a direction to click on and of the document description to access the form /documentUsers are confused by inconsistent section header behaviour
Inbox – LabLAB1Users 4, 5, 6 & 7“I am not sure how you would find new labs.”
– Administrative Staff

“I think it’s emails because the Inbox is messages for doctors or somebody, you know?”
– Administrative Staff
I want to be able to see and easily access my Patients new lab results from the main screen menuAccess to new lab results is unintuitive
Scheduling – DashboardSCHED1User 1, 3, 5, 6 & 7“It would be nice [to right-click] to see what the menu is otherwise you have to rotate through all that [the appointment status].”
– Physician
“But I am not sure how to even book one. I thought I could just right click and book one... so I guess I am just gonna click on the time.”
– Administrative Staff
“I am changing colors on this but I don’t know what I am doing [after clicking appointment status icon].”
– Administrative Staff
For the appointment status, I want to be able to see the list of available status without rotating through it all and when adding or booking an appointment, i should be directed to select a preferred and available time slot.Manipulating appointments is not user-friendly nor efficient
Scheduling – DashboardSCHED2Users 1 to 7“It is irritating having the default that forces you to scroll. Would be useful to have it open in almost full screen.”
– Physician
“It just scrolled me back to the beginning again... Haha, It should at least remember where I am...Every time I leave the page I have to scroll back?!”
– Physician
“It’s a bad thing [the horizontal scroll]. If you are trying to be quick, it’s easier if you have all the doctors you are working with at the front, for that day to see... at least the ones that are working today... if you had that option”
– Administrative Staff
I want my schedule sceen to fit the window with no horizontal scroll, then i will have a complete overview of the Patient and staff Status for the dayHorizontal scroll is not obvious and facilitates user confusion
Scheduling – DashboardSCHED3User 2, 4, 5, 6 & 7“That is moronic...Full patient name is more important because that’s the first thing I look for.”
– Physician
“It would be better if you could [see the whole patient name], there could be 3 people that the last name starts with Ma... so if you could see the whole name it would be pretty quick.”
– Administrative Staff
For my Patients on appointment, i should be able to see their full name then i can differentiate patients with the same last names.Patient names are not visible on the schedule
Scheduling – DashboardSCHED4User 1, 2, 3, 4 & 7“[upon switching schedule views:] What am I doing?!”
– Administrative Staff
“I don’t know what it’s telling me...I don’t really know what kind of information I can get from that [the provider monthly view].”
– Administrative Staff
I want to be able to switch from one view to another knowing what information each view contains as labelled.Users are confused by the different schedule views
Scheduling – DashboardSCHED5User 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 & 7“I am not quite sure why a folder should be ‘To Do’”
– Physician
“It says blue [square icon] is empty room...I don’t know, does that mean something?”
– Administrative Staff
“Without knowing you have to hover to get that info, I wouldn’t know that [the meaning of the icon].”
– Physician
“I have no idea what this circle with an arrow in it means.” (Physician)
“This round arrow thing, I don’t know if that is very clear.” (Administrative staff)
“X should mean they are not coming, and the opposite, a check, should be they are here. Versus they cancelled their appointment or they are billed.” (Administrative staff)
“What is this stop button for [icon in appointment]? Maybe telling you not to schedule anybody there?” (Administrative staff)
For the current status of the patients given the various process involved i should be able to see and select from a short list of status with icons that are clearly defined and understood.Appointment status icons are unclear
